Uniforms & Dress Code

Printer Friendly Version

All students must be in uniform every day.  There will be NUT (No Uniform Today) days which will be announced during the course of the school year (a dress code for such days MUST be followed).  If there is a time when the prescribed uniform cannot for some legitimate reason be worn, a note from the parent/guardian must be written to the Principal.  Students who are out of uniform without this excuse will be sent to the office and the parent will be notified of the violation.  There is a special uniform for Physical Education classes.

OLA SCHOOL UNIFORM GUIDELINES

The uniform, in its entirety shall be worn to school each day unless otherwise notified.  The uniform should be clean and pressed with all buttons attached and hem intact.  Shirts MUST be tucked in at all times while a student is on school grounds.  Since neatness and good grooming speak refinement, we ask all parents to see that the uniform regulations are kept.  Training in good appearance encourages a child’s sense of dignity and respect for oneself and others.

GIRLS are required to wear the school plaid jumper (K-4) or skirt (5-8) with a collared, solid white uniform blouse on days specified as DRESS UNIFORM DAYS.  ONLY a solid white or navy cami is allowed to be worn underneath this blouse.  Navy knee socks or tights are to be worn.  A gray (K-6) or navy (7-8) OLA monogrammed sweater is allowed to be worn.

Navy blue (K-6) or khaki (7-8) shorts or skorts may be worn in place of the plaid jumper/skirt from the beginning of the school year until October 31 and again from May 1 through the end of the school year.  In addition to their jumper/skirt, girls may wear navy (K-6) or khaki (7-8) slacks with the white blouse or OLA monogrammed  polo shirt (K-6) light blue or gray, (7-8) navy blue.  As of August 2013 the gray polo shirt will no longer be included as part of the OLA uniform!  The slacks must be ankle length.  No LOW RISE, STRETCH, BAGGY OR BELL BOTTOM slacks are allowed!

**All jumpers/skirts/skorts should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee**

BOYS are required to wear navy (K-6) or khaki (7-8) slacks and a white dress shirt with a solid navy blue tie (K-6) or a tie of their own choice (7-8) on days specified as DRESS UNIFORM DAYS.  No LOW RISE, CARPENTER STYLE, BAGGY OR CARGO STYLE slacks are allowed!

Navy (K-6) or khaki (7-8) walking shorts may be worn from the start of school until October 31 and again from May 1 through the end of the school year.  Boys may wear navy (K-6) or khaki (7-8) slacks with a white button down shirt or a OLA monogrammed light blue or gray (K-6) or navy blue (7-8) polo shirt.  As of August 2013 the gray polo shirt will no longer be included as part of the OLA uniform!  A gray OLA monogrammed sweater is allowed to be worn.

DRESS UNIFORM

Every day that a school Mass or Prayer Service is scheduled is a DRESS UNIFORM DAY!  All athletes are expected to be in dress uniform on game days!  From time to time, the principal may designate an additional day as a DRESS UNIFORM day. In those cases that fall on your child's gym day, they may wear their gym uniform but must wear the pants.

FOOTWEAR (BOY & GIRLS)

Uniform footwear includes non-scuffing, SOLID COLOR brown, navy blue or black dress shoes.  Alternately, SOLID black or white sneakers may be worn with the uniform as well.  Only white or black shoelaces are allowed!  Work boots, hiking boots, UGGS, clogs, crocs, sandals, Twinkle Toes, shoes with a heel larger than 1 inch or sneakers others than those previously described are NOT PERMITTED.  Students may not wear winter boots all day in the classroom.  Wet boots or shoes are to be removed before the student enters the classroom.
