Catholic School Week Mystery Skype

First graders did a Mystery Skype project during Catholic Schools Week.  The children asked a series of questions that brought them to the conclusion that the class they were talking to was in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Shown here is the class waiting for its next clue.  At the same time our Mystery Skype partners were trying to determine where we were.  Both classes were successful.  Also shown is Mr. Walsh assisting students as they look for a state flag that is blue and yellow and students displaying their maps.

1A Service Project

In addition to supporting the Hannaford Food Drive and the Toy Drive organized by the Student Council, first graders did some service work on their own.  A pajama drive was held and new pajamas and books were collected and then donated to the Elizabeth Seton House in Lynn in time for Christmas.

Students also contributed to "care" packages for our troops. Seven boxes were sent to Massachusetts soldiers deployed in Afghanistan this Christmas.  Along with food treats, decorations, and some necessities, were hand made cards and letters personalized for each of the 22 soldiers.  The children had fun and learned the importance of doing these small acts of kindness.

Breast Cancer Awareness

During lunch periods, Rachel and Steven Galatis organized and ran a campaign to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer.  They sold rings, bracelets, and ties for the boys. They raised $325 to donate to the American Cancer Society.  A big thank you to all those students who participated and helped make this campaign a success.  Pictured below are Rachel, Steven, Mrs. Galatis, and Mr. Grocki along with the American Cancer Society representative who came to pick up the donation.

OLA Family Referral Program

Our Lady of the Assumption School would like to announce that it is embarking on a multifaceted Marketing and Enrollment Campaign designed to promote the transformative, faith-based educational experience of our school to prospective parents in the communities we serve. While a good idea in even a robust economic environment, this enrollment initiative is a proactive response to declining enrollments affecting every private educational institution, including ours. It includes an Advertising Campaign, a Series of Open Houses, and a Parent Referral Program. Because the proven, most reliable form of advertising is "word of mouth," YOU PLAY A KEY ROLE IN THE SUCCESS OF THIS CAMPAIGN!

Parents, teachers, students and staff participated in the first Open House of the new school year on August 14, 2011. The inquiries and visits were very encouraging. The Open House was supported by coordinated advertising in local newspapers serving Peabody, Lynn, Saugus and Lynnfield. Future Open Houses will be scheduled.

Over the years, parents have been the best "advertisers" of OLA because you have witnessed, first-hand, the spiritual growth and academic achievement of your own children. We hope that you will continue, or in some cases begin, to share your excitement and enthusiasm for OLA with others. To that end, we are pleased to introduce a Family Referral Program. Current OLA families will be eligible to receive a $500 tuition credit for the 2013-2014 school year for each new student who enrolls (in K-8) as a result of a referral. Faculty and staff who refer students are also eligible to participate. Details and conditions of the program are available by clicking here.

OLA greatly appreciates the steadfast support of our school families who not only invest financially in their children's education, but who also volunteer countless hours in faithful service to the OLA school. Your commitment and dedication to OLA is truly humbling.
